iTunes Radio no longer free, requires Apple Music subscription

Image
One of the main reasons Apple was able to eventually make the deals with music publishers to create Apple Music was that Apple promised there would be no free version of the on-demand service, like there is on competitors like Spotify, so record companies could be assured a certain amount of revenue. For a while, Apple let that idea slide a bit (to get people hooked, as good companies do), but now iTunes Radio is no longer free. iTunes Radio was the holdout, offering ad-supported streams to users, because the service had been in place since 2013. However, iTunes Radio no longer offers a "free", ad-supported version of the service, and if you want to still have access to those streams, you will have to pay the Apple Music subscription fee. Apple Music's Beats 1 will now be the only "premier free broadcast" offered, because that service is not on-demand.  Of course, if you like having on-demand radio mixes, this doesn't mean you need to start pay

LG G5 fan render video attempts to give us a 3D look at upcoming flagship

Image
Of all the upcoming big smartphone flagship launches, both those we’re expecting for MWC and those that might land in the weeks thereafter, few models have leaked to nearly the extent the LG G5 has. Fromschematics, to renders, to images of actual hardware, we’ve had ample opportunity to get an early look at this phone, and while there are plenty of details we’re still hoping to see confirmed, by this point we’ve got a pretty strong sense of how the handset’s coming together. Maybe the one thing we’ve been missing throughout all this is some nice hands-on video footage of the G5, giving us a preview of the phone from multiple angles. Mind you, this isn’t any official source, but one illustrator has taken a survey at all those leaks that have surfaced to date and put together a little video taste of how the LG G5 might end up looking. Admittedly, some of what we get here doesn’t look quite right: the phone’s rear fingerprint scanner comes off as a bit odd in its depiction here, as

Promised Samsung Galaxy S7 renders finally arrive – is this what we’ve been waiting for?

Image
At this point we’ve heard a ton about what to expect from the Galaxy S7, and we’re looking forward to a launch just a few more weeks away. But what’s proved impressively (to Samsung’s credit) difficult to come by has been imagery of the actual hardware. At least, early renders made a few attempts, and we checked out a shot earlier this week that might be the real deal (if it weren’t so obscured by a testing rig), but a really convincing, fully revealing shot of the phone remianed elusive. Earlier this week, leak superstar Evan Blass teased us on social media with some promises of HQ Galaxy S7 imagery, and this afternoon he finally delivers, publishing the shots you see here of a smaller 5.1-inch Galaxy S7, and the larger 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge. If you were hoping for a pronounced departure from Samsung’s Galaxy S6 designs, we’ve got bad news for you, because these aren’t them. Well, not from this angle, at least. We’ve already heard that Samsung may have solved the “problem” o

3D render of LG G5 model surfaces with 5.6-inch, 2K resolution screen and dual cameras on back

Image
Earlier this month, diagrams of the  LG G5  revealed that  the manufacturer had moved the volume buttons from the back of the phone to the left side . The screen also showed off thin bezels on the front glass, and the phone was a little more curvier in the back. Perhaps this was done to help the user maintain a solid grip on the device. Just a few days ago,  images of some cases for the LG G5 were discovered . They confirmed that LG had moved the volume controls away from the back of the phone and placed it on the left side. Also revealed was the the dual camera system that is employed on the back of the phone, and the fingerprint scanner that is placed under the rear cameras. Technoconfigurations  used the diagrams and images of the cases that were released, to come up with some 3D renderings of the LG G5. You can check them out in the slideshow and in the accompanying video. According to Technoconfigurations, the LG G5 will feature a 5.6-inch screen with a 1440 x 2560 resolut

Samsung Galaxy S7 Battery Life Tipped to Be Very Impressive

Image
Samsung may not have announced dates for its 'Galaxy Unpacked 2016' event for MWC where the company is expected to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S7 flagship, though there is no stopping the leaks related to the handset and its variants. In the latest such leak, a tipster has claimed that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S7 flagship is capable of 17 hours of video playback at full brightness - tipping rather capable battery life. The tipster Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin has claimed the details about Samsung's unannounced Galaxy S7 flagship on Twitter. Tipster Eldar Murtazin does not have the perfect record of leaks, especially with Samsung devices and services, though with the wording of the tweet, he certainly appears to have access to a unit. We however have to wait till Samsung's official confirmation about the detail. To put the battery life figure in perspective, in our own video playback loop test, the Galaxy S6 provided 13 hours and 8 minutes of playback, while

Honor 5X vs Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon version): See Why Xiaomi Wins This Battle!

Image
Huawei broke its own record last year when it sold more than   107 million smartphones worldwide . And more than  40% of its sales were in markets other than China , which shows the company’s hold in international regions. India is one of the important markets for this Chinese giant, and the company just recently unveiled the two budget models in the country, namely the  Huawei Honor 5X  and the Holly 2 Plus models. These two devices are decently priced and come with pretty good specs. In India, it goes on sale in February at Rs. 12,999 and Rs. 8,499 respectively. However, if you were to directly compare these models to the recently unveiled Xiaomi Redmi 3 and the Redmi Note 3 (new version), you would realize that these models are still way behind the new Redmi series, which features better specs and cheaper price tags. Since we expect both, the Redmi 3 and the Redmi Note 3 to hit the Indian subcontinent in the next few months, it becomes necessary for us to compare which offer

Xiaomi Mi 5 Retail Box Leaked, Reveals Four Different Colors

Image
Thanks to the numerous leaks and teasers, we know a lot about the upcoming Xiaomi flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 5. Now the latest leak gives us a look at the phone’s retail box. This is different than  what we saw a couple of days back , which showed off the Mi 5 in a traditional recycled brown box. Given that the company has stopped using the brown box in its recent releases, it’s possible that the box leaked today is the real one. While a box simply doesn’t tell much about the specs of device, what it does reveal is that the design will be like the renders that we have seen recently with a physical home button up front. Also, it shows us that there will be at least four different colors available for the device, including golden and pink apart from the usual black and white shades. This once again confirms the shades that we saw in the renders that were leaked a few days back. While there are some specs of the Mi 5 that are yet to be confirmed, what we know for sur

Xiaomi Mi 5 Screenshot Posted By Lei Jun Confirms A Couple Of Features

Image
We are all eager to meet the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship, which will be launched next month. However, like tradition, Lei Jun has resorted to Weibo to tease some of the features of the handset. Yesterday evening, he posted a screenshot of the Mi 5, which basically confirms two features on the flagship. We can  see  a “N”  icon on the taskbar on top, which should be for the NFC . Previously, we had seen from a  leaked document that Xiaomi was bringing back the NFC  feature to the new Mi 5 flagship, so this isn’t surprising. After removing the feature from its Mi 4 in 2014, it looks like the company feels NFC still has a lot to offer. Another feature confirmed by the company is  dual SIM dual standby . We can clearly see the two network icons with 4G LTE support on top, which means two SIM cards work on the device. Apart from these two features, Lei Jun said in another post that  there are a lot of surprises on the device . He has been using the phone for more than a month now and h

OPPO Find 9 Leaked Featuring Unibody Metal Design

Image
OPPO, the famous device maker from China is finally back in the game and if rumors are to be believed then it will soon officially announce the next flagship device from the brand that goes by the name of OPPO Find 9. Now, new photos of the smartphones have leaked online which are purported to be of OPPO Find 9. This flagship device will be featuring a unibody metal design maintaining a slim profile. As we can see the camera unit is slightly protruding and just below the camera there is an invisible fingerprint sensor. Though the authenticity of these images could not be ascertained but it gives an insight into what OPPO could be thinking for the next big thing i.e. Find 9. As for the specifications, OPPO Find 9 is rumored to be flaunting a larger 5.9 inches 2K display and Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood, the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm coupled with 4GB of RAM. Other specifications are still a secret and we hope to get some information regarding them in da

Here’s The Xiaomi Mi 5 In Its Box Featuring Thin Bezels & Front Fingerprint

Image
Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship will meet us at the   February 24 Spring Conference in China . After more than 1.5 years of waiting, fans will finally get to see the new flagship, which will reportedly be one of the best smartphones from the company till date.   However, even before the release, we had seen a  few renders of the device,  which showed us that the phone will most likely come with a front facing physical home button with fingerprint sensor. Now, the same phone has leaked once again, but this time in its box. The design seems to be the same as the earlier leaks, so this could be the real deal. This leak further confirms that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will come with a 2.5D glass design. The bezels are also quite narrow, so the screen to body ratio should be impressive. One important thing to note here is that Xiaomi has ditched the traditional brown recycled box design in its recent smartphones, yet the new Mi 5 is shown in this box. So, this may not be

LeEco Le 1s first impressions: At Rs 10999, seems like a worthy contender in the budget space

Image
Build and design At first look, the device captures your attention with its use of aluminium. The choice of gold and silver as colours also add to the impression it creates. The finishing of unibody design has a certain level of elegance in it. Unlike the Nexus 6P and 5X released in 2015, where the build material is different; in case of LeEco, the higher-end flagship as well as the budget offering have a visually consistent feel. The LeMax is huge on specs, with a superior design. At about one-third the price, the Le 1s manages to retain a similar visual identity. If exquisite detail is the secret to an enamouring work of art, chamfering indeed is the recipe to artistic product design. That seems to be a checklist many device manufacturers are incorporating into their products. And at the price that the Le 1s has been launched, it does check all the boxes recommended by modern day industrial design. There’s unibody design, a symmetrical language in the product, chamfered e
