Google might soon launch its own branded Android smartphone, as per new reports. The Mountain View giant is said to be in discussions with mobile operators about the new Google-branded smartphone which may see light of the day by year end. The move to launch its own Android smartphone is said to have more control over design apart from the software as well as to end the dominance of Apple's iPhone in high-end segment. The Telegraph citing people familiar with the discussions reports that the new Google-branded handset will "extend the company's move into hardware." "The new device, which will be released by the end of the year according to a senior source, will see Google take more control over design, manufacturing and software," adds the report. Additionally, 9to5google received a tip earlier this year from an anonymous which was reportedly sent from an IP address situated close to Google's campus. In other words, Apple is discontinuing the Thunderbolt Display. The Cupertino giant says that it will sell the Thunderbolt Display through its retail stores, official retailers, and its online store till stocks last. After which, it won't refill the stock. This either means that Apple is killing off Thunderbolt display altogether, or coming out with new 5K displays. The new displays will get a fresh name, presumably, and many are rooting for it to be called 'Apple 5K Display'. "We're discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display. It will be available through Apple.com, Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last. There are a number of great third-party option

Image
We're only a few months away from an official announcement for the next generation iPhone, which is expected to be called the iPhone 7. There have been a fair number of rumors regarding the device, but not too much in terms of pricing or the storage tiers to be available. But a new leak appears to have some interesting news on that front. The info comes from a leaker on Chinese social network Weibo who has had accurate info in the past. Interestingly, it looks like Apple will finally be listening to the cries of customers and getting rid of the 16GB models in favor of a base model of 32GB. Oddly, whereas the iPhone 7 will have storage tiers of 32GB, 64GB and 256GB, the iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 7 Pro will have tiers of 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB. And, that's the other interesting bit, it seems to confirm that there will be an iPhone Pro added to the lineup, although it is unclear exactly what will set that device apart from the standard iPhone 7 or the iPhone 7 Plus. In terms o

The price is a point of interest as well, at AUD 53.99 (approximately Rs. 2,680), you can expect it to be priced between Rs. 2,499 and Rs. 2,999 in India, which is pretty fair given the wealth of content on hand. Tencent buys Clash of Clans maker Supercell for $8.57 billion

Image
The business of super-popular mobile games is tricky, but when done right can be extremely lucrative. Although the potential revenue stream isn't always the most reliable. Games that rely on addictive gameplay and in-app purchases are the most fickle options, but also the most popular. The latest to cash out from this is Supercell, developer of Clash of Clans. Supercell has agreed to a deal which would see the company purchased from the Japanese telecom Softbank by Tencent of China for $8.57 billion. This is a huge deal for Supercell, obviously, and Tencent hopes that the huge Chinese market will be enough opportunity for Supercell avoid the fate of previous similar purchases which has been somewhat mixed. Back in 2012, Zynga purchased OMGPOP, maker of once popular Draw Something, for $180 million. Unfortunately, Draw Something had already hit its height of popularity by the time the purchase went through. Then last year, Activision Blizzard agreed to purchase Candy Crush develope

Final Fantasy XIV May Come to the Xbox One

Image
One of the better Final Fantasy games in recent years, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been on the PS3, PS4, and PC. For the longest time the developers at Square Enix have staid it never found its way to the Xbox One because Microsoft's infrastructure did not allow for cross-platform play which allows players from any platform to play together on the same servers. This however changed in March this year. "In addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we're enabling developers to support cross-network play as well," wrote Chris Charla Director of ID@Xbox (Microsoft's indie game developer program) in a post announcing its Game Developers Conference plans. "This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks - including other console and PC networks." With this in mind, it appears that in theory, the

iPhone 7 Plus Still Getting Dual Cameras Treatment Reveals Insider

Yesterday it was reported that Apple decided to ditch dual cameras on the upcoming iPhone 7 due to technical difficulties, however another insider has revealed that parts manufacturer, Foxconn, has been making moulds of the iPhone 7 Plus which feature dual cameras. Lens supplier, Dali, also revealed that delivery of dual lenses for the iPhone 7 Plus has not been halted. So, it looks like the earlier rumor about Apple ditching the dual lens setup could be false. Dual camera phones are part of the main features for some of this year’s flagship devices. The Huawei P9 and V8, the LG G5, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 7 all have dual cameras. News also has it that OPPO, Xiaomi, and Vivo are all working on dual camera phones. So we guess Apple doesn’t want to arrive late to the party.

An iPhone 7 Pro with 'powerful zoom' to land in the fall, yet Foxconn CEO predicts 'feeble' sales

Image
As if we needed a reminder that Apple's iPhone sales are to remain soft this year despite the iPhone 7 launch, the CEO and chairman of Foxconn Terry Gou himself has reportedly chipped in on the matter. He reportedly told the staff to expect "feeble" iPhone sales at least until early 2017. Now, whether that's based on the order amount in the pipeline, or what he knows about the selling points of the upcoming iPhones, remains to be seen, but for Q1 Foxconn reported a 5.5% revenue drop year-on-year, despite a sudden order rush in April and May.  Suppliers are also complaining that Apple is now making too many color versions, which leads to inventory buildup for some that hurts their business, as orders are adjusted dynamically each quarter. As per Lin Chien-nan, the CEO of Wintek that used to be a big touch module supplier: "Apple is always overbooking its capacity. It works only when demand is strong. However, when demand softens, it leads to inventory correcti
