Amazon Profit Crushes Estimates as Cloud-Service Revenue Soars

Image
Amazon.com Inc on Thursday reported profit and revenue that blew past analysts' expectations, sending its shares soaring in after-hours trading and demonstrating the growing market power of its core retail business and new cloud services division. The results draw a sharp contrast to the disappointing fourth quarter Amazon reported in January, which renewed worries among some shareholders about the company's comparatively thin profit margins. Shares of the world's biggest online retailer jumped nearly 13 percent to $679 in extended trading on Thursday. Amazon's performance also assuaged concerns about a broader slowdown among tech and internet companies after Apple, Microsoft and Intel all reported disappointing earnings. "It did restore my faith," said Dan Conde, an analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group, who keeps a close eye on Amazon's cloud business. The company also offered a bright outlook, with revenue guidance for the current quarter of $28 b

iPhone 7 Plus Leaked Schematics Tip Dual Camera, Smart Connector, and More

Image
The anticipated iPhone 7 Plus aka iPhone 7 Pro aka iPhone Pro's schematics have been leaked by a Japanese magazine, hinting at a dual-camera setup and a Smart Connector like seen in iPad Pro models. The schematics also show the omission of a 3.5mm headphone jack, something that has been rumoured for the upcoming iPhone models since quite a while. However, there is no difference in thickness compared to the iPhone 6s Plus. According to the schematics of the 'iPhone Pro' shared by Macotakara, Apple may not drastically redesign the iPhone 7 Plus model. However, the rear camera cut out at the back panel is seen to be wider than on the iPhone 6s Plus, indicating Apple may place the rumoured dual-camera setup there. This already has been rumoured several times before. A Smart Connector placed at the bottom of the back panel is also visible hinting a new method to charge the smartphone. Details are however scarce at the moment. This could also result in better battery cases and

Although nothing is mentioned in the press invitation except for the date, the Lenovo-owned company is anticipated to launch the next-generation Moto G-series smartphone in India first. To recall, Motorola had launched the Moto G (Gen 3) in India first, ahead of similar events around the globe. More details about the event can be expected to be shared by the company soon. YouTube for Android and iOS Revamped, Gets Better Recommendations

Image
YouTube Android and iOS app on Tuesday got a facelift as the company updated the app's home feed design and also improved the recommendation engine. The team also introduced Bumper ads for short YouTube videos. Until now users saw a similar YouTube home feed design on the Android and iOS app like they did on the desktop. However, after the update the app's feed design focuses on large, high-resolution thumbnails of videos with as little text as possible. The new design also prominently shows profile icons of the creators under their videos. More options to remove the video from the feed, add it to Watch Later list or playlist, saving the video offline, and share it on other platforms can be accessed from the three dot more icon on the right side of each video listing. In addition, groups for recommended videos have now been completely removed as all the videos now appear in a single ranked list. We are not sure how well the interface changes will go down with users. Opinion

Nintendo NX Release Date Revealed

Image
After many a rumour, Nintendo has finally announced when its next console, the Nintendo NX will be available. The successor to its ill-fated Wii U can be bought in March 2017. The news comes via the company's most recent financial statements where it says: "For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed "NX" with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally." This shouldn't come as a surprise considering the spate of hints over the past few months. Both AMDand GameStop have claimed it would be expected soon. With Sony and Microsoft heavily rumoured to announce iterative variants of their consoles by E3 2016 with a possible November launch, a March 2017 release window gives Nintendo enough time to launch with a worthy roster of games. Speaking of which, its Zelda title for the Wii U has been delayed to 2017. The company has confirmed it for the NX as well albeit with no releas

But what’s really interesting is the device that’s underneath! We can see that it’s a laptop, but the branding is most likely covered by the phone. Instead, we can see the Mi logo in orange posted over the notebook. Further, the image asks, “What else do you expect from Xiaomi this year?”. Putting these thi

iPhone 7 Tipped to Be Waterproof, Sport Force Touch Home Button

Image
The upcoming iPhone 7 as per some analysts would be a minor upgrade over the previous model and might not have a 'selling point'. However, some rumours might change their thinking. It has been reported that the iPhone 7 might be dust and waterproof and will feature a Force Touch home button on the display, something that has been rumoured in the past as well. Digitimes reports (via GSMArena) that the iPhone 7 has completed its third round of testing for dust and water resistance. In addition, the prototype models are said to feature a digital touch-sensitive or virtual home button as part of the display. Storm, another Chinese website (via 9to5Mac) adds to the rumour by saying the virtual home button might use haptic feedback motors seen on the Force Touch trackpad of the MacBook to give a button like feel, and other interface options. The report adds that this would make the smartphone completely dustproof and waterproof. To be noted is that analysts recently predicted the

OnePlus 3 Spotted With 6GB RAM, Release & Pricing Details Leaked

Image
All major smartphone manufacturers have already released their flagship smartphones for the year. This leaves out only a few companies like the OnePlus who are yet to reveal their big guns for 2016. Last year’s OnePlus 2 was slated as the “2016 flagship killer” and it’s likely that this year the company might call its next phone the “2017 flagship killer”. But to stay true to that name, it will need to come with killer specs, and from the recent benchmark leaks of the device, we can expect powerful hardware inside the new device. OnePlus A3000 RAIN RAIN model has just been spotted on the benchmarking website, Geekbench revealing key specs and benchmark scores of the device. Under the hood, the phone seems to be running the quad-core Snapdragon 820 chipset that currently dominates the top-end market. In addition to that, the model comes with 6GB of RAM on board. Lead times for the Apple iPhone SE continue to show strong demand for the phone

Image
According to Apple's online store, lead times for the Apple iPhone SE have been holding steady at 2-to-3 weeks for the Verizon, AT&T and Chinese versions of the 4-inch handset. Much of the initial data had originally indicated tepid demand for the iPhone SE. But once the lead times widened, and the phone started to be hard to find on carriers' shelves, analysts started to consider the phone a success. Three weeks after launch, the lead time for the iPhone SE in the U.S. and China equals the same 2-to-3 weeks that the Apple iPhone 5s posted three weeks after its launch . The strongest demand based on lead time for an iPhone after three weeks was seen by the Apple iPhone 6 Plus. Apple's first phablet was leaving the factory 3-to-4-weeks after an order was received. Being the first 5.5-inch iPhone surely helped ratchet up demand. After all, the smaller Apple iPhone 6 was shipping in just 7-to-10 days during the same time. The Apple iPhone 6s had a lead time of just 3 to

Fortune: no iPhone 7s in store as Apple prepares to release overhauled iPhone 8 in 2017

Image
Barclays analyst Mark Moskowitz has made some interesting and provocative claims about this and next year's flagship model iPhone. Citing supply chain sources, Moskowitz suggests that the iPhone 7 will be an incremental update that won't introduce significant hardware and design changes, other than the likely possibility of a thinner body allowed by the 3.5mm jack's polarizing removal. Envisioning the upcoming iPhone as a "replacement device" for sixth-generation model owners, he says Apple considers skipping the traditional "s" generation upgrade that follows major iPhone announcements to introduce a thoroughly overhauled iPhone 8 in 2017. Mr. Moskowitz cites "major form factor changes," an OLED display, removing the Home button in favor of Force Touch-type tactile control, and wireless charging as potential ingredients to the new iPhone formula. These are all rumors which we have heard before, and some of them do sound credible considering

First Real Image Of the Xiaomi Max Emerge, It’s Going To Be Big!

Image
Xiaomi is all set to announce a new smartphone in its phablet lineup called as the Xiaomi Max. The company has been teasing about this phone for the past few days, but now, we have the first real life image of the Xiaomi Max. We can only see a part of the front of the Max, however, it looks like the earlier leaked front panel of the device was indeed of the new Xiaomi phablet. From the new image, we can see that the company is going to use a symmetrical front design. The sensors are placed on the either side of the ear piece and looks much better than the previous placement of the sensors. This also kind of confirms that the earlier leaked front panel, which had the same design is indeed of the Xiaomi Max. I have added the panel down below, and you would immediately see the similarity. Xiaomi’s SVP had earlier said that Xiaomi Max is not just a large screen phablet, but it would be designed keeping in mind the user experience of the customer. So, it looks like there would be a few

Sony Xperia M Ultra With 16-Megapixel Selfie Camera Leaked

Image
A new Sony Xperia smartphone dubbed Xperia M Ultra has been rumoured to launch soon. The smartphone was leaked by a tipster on Weibo, and is claimed to feature an impressive 16-megapixel front-facing camera. According to tipster HQ Vision, the Sony Xperia M Ultra features a 6-inch full-HD Triluminos display and will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC under the hood. Other specifications tipped include 23-megapixel dual-rear camera; fingerprint scanner; USB Type-C, 4280mAh battery with Quick Charging 3.0 support; 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of inbuilt storage. We'd like to remind readers however, all these leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt as Sony has not mentioned anything about the upcoming device beyond teasing how good it will be, and the legitimacy of the leaks remains questionable. The Japanese smartphone giant has so far launched the Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia T2 Ultrasmartphones in its Xperia Ultra range of phones. A recent leak claimed Sony may be planning to launc

Tesla CEO Says Almost 400,000 Orders Received for Model 3

Image
Electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors has received almost 400,000 orders for its latest car, the Model 3 sedan, its CEO said on Thursday. "We are now almost at 400,000 orders for the Model 3," Elon Musk told a conference held in the Norwegian capital. He added that the interest in the model had "surprised even us". On April 7, the company said it had received over 325,000 reservations for the Model 3. This mark was hit just one week after the car, which will not be available until late 2017, was unveiled by Tesla Motorsfounder Elon Musk in Los Angeles. "This Interest has spread completely organically," Tesla had said on its blog. "Unlike other major product launches, we haven't advertised or paid for any endorsements." Consumers interested in the car must pay a deposit of $1,000 (roughly Rs. 66,670). Xiaomi Pay is coming soon

Image
Apple shot the fist bullet and many others are following. After the introduction of Apple Pay back in 2014 till now, several manufacturers, such as Samsung with Samsung Pay, have introduced their own transaction system using their devices. Today, it was Xiaomi’s turn to introduce it’s own solution, the Xiaomi Pay. In association with China UnionPay, the third largest payment network behind Visa and Mastercard, Xiaomi will bring mobile payments using NFC to its devices witch lead us to believe that the upcoming Xiaomi Max will feature NFC and fingerprint sensor. The cooperation between the two companies isn’t new. Since December 2015, China UnionPay has launched Cloud Flash Pay service, that enables a smartphone user to pay using NFC and the mobile app of his bank by just putting it close to the POS. It seems that this time, the cooperation will be tighter. Lei Jun, the Chairman of Xiaomi said in Weibo that the Xiaomi Pay experience is very smooth and that the company is currently wo

ZUK Z2 Pro Official, World’s First True Flagship With 6GB RAM & A Lot Of Powerful Features

Image
April has been the month of the Chinese flagships. We have seen so many powerful devices in the past 21 days that it has become hard to keep a track of all the smartphones announced recently. Now, add ZUK Z2 Pro to the list as the company calls it the true flagship smartphone of this year. Why this sudden claim? Well, the phone comes with so many powerful features that it can claim to be the ‘first’ in a lot of things. For example, the phone is reportedly the first on to use a “true 3D mirror body design”. There are a bunch of other firsts, but more about that later. First up, the phone’s design is unique because of its 3D mirror design. The 3D glass body comes with an arch design. The frame in the middle has gone through 10 processors and 260 steps to ensure durability. Further, it uses a roll cage design for addition protection. Coming to the screen, the ZUK Z2 Pro will limit the black borders to mere 0.05mm, which is pretty impressive. There will be a Super AMOLED 5.2-inch displa

Qualcomm CEO hints at new modem for Apple iPhone 7

Image
Back in October, and again last month, we passed along some speculation that Apple will be switching to an Intel modem for the Apple iPhone 7. Currently, the iPhone sports a modem made by Qualcomm. Apple was rumored to have sent a team out to Munich last year to help optimize the Intel 7360 LTE modem for use in the iPhone 7. In addition, Apple has reportedly hired wireless engineers from the team that developed the chip. Today, the possibility of a modem switch for the iPhone 7 came into sharper focus. Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf told analysts that he is assuming that a major customer plans on placing a big order with a Qualcomm rival, thus resulting in a huge loss of business for the company. While the executive did not reveal the name of the firm switching suppliers, most analysts believe that Mollenkopf was talking about Apple. The Apple iPhone 7 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus are both expected to be unveiled in September. Considering the lead time required to manufacture millions of

Huawei P9 Lite certified by TENAA

Image
It's been a very busy year for Huawei. After the introduction of Mate 8, Mediapad M2 back in January and Mediapad T1 Plus earlier today, a couple of devices are coming soon. Just a few days ago, Huawei introduced the Huawei P9 Series but left out the P9 Lite. Well, it’s coming soon enough. As always, every device has to pass through TENAA certification (China’s equivalent to the FCC) so we have a full picture of the specs and design of the device. According to TENAA’s listing, the Huawei P9 Lite will feature a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card. Xiaomi Max Renders Leak, Visually Similar To Xiaomi Mi 5

Image
Xiaomi has conducted an online poll asking Mi fans across the globe for their suggestions for naming their big screen device and depending upon the votes successfully named it Xiaomi Max. Some days back we informed you about the leaked photos of the front panel of this smartphone. Now we are here to report that a new render of Xiaomi Max has been leaked online. From the look of it, Xiaomi Max looks visually similar to Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone Mi 5 which was unveiled back in February. In fact, it looks like a bigger version of Mi 5 with the Home Key along with two capacitive keys. Since the back panel is visibly plain we can guess that fingerprint sensor is integrated into the home key. The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right side of the smartphone. In addition to that rumors have surfaced that this 6.4-inch smartphone will be fueled by a Snapdragon 820 chipset and it will sport a metallic build. It was also purported that Xiaomi is planning to launch this sma
