Xiaomi Mi 5 rumor review: specs, features, release date, everything we know so far

Image
Despite unleashing a couple of top-end phones (Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Mi 4i), Xiaomi did not release a flagship smartphone in 2015. Yes, we witnessed the arrival of the Xiaomi Mi 4i and the so-so Mi 4c, but the anticipated Mi 5 remained a mirage of sorts. Interestingly, the rumor mill never ceased to come up with possible release dates for the device; actually, there were a couple possible dates during each of the preceding months. However, Xiaomi kept mostly mum and unveiled no Mi 5.  However, the rumor mill has quickened the pace at which it churns out new hearsay and is claiming that the device, which is codenamed "Gemini" might finally see the light of day on January 21, 2016, and get released in February 2016. As this possible release date is merely a month away, we decided that it's high time we summarized everything we know about the device and show you the full picture - design leaks, rumored specs, price, and all. Let's go! Design : At this point, w...

Win a free Android One handset in India during Google's second Translatathon

Image
If you are fluent in Bengali, Telugu, and Tamil, Google needs your help. The company is looking for you to translate into English certain words and phrases in those languages during its second Translatathon, which ends on December 30th. Google will reward the 50 most active participants by giving them a free Android One handset. According to Google, there are 22 different languages employed in India; the three that we mentioned above are not seen on the internet as much as others. Google's previous Transatathon drew 20,000 helpers who contributed over 1 million new translations for Hindi.  If you're an Indian citizen, click on  g.co/translatathon  to register. Once that is accomplished, you will be able to access the Translate Community Tool. Once logged in, using the same Gmail address you registered with ,  click on "Translate" or "Validate" to start contributing.  Google is calling this a contest, and says to for entries to count they must be re...

Smartisan T2 Posters Leaked Before Launch, Specs & Design Confirmed

Image
For the past few weeks, we have been  hearing a lot about the next generation flagship from Smartisan , called the Smartisan T2. The phone will be announced on December 29, which is just a week away. Naturally, this means that we will hear a lot about the device in the coming days. Earlier today, Smartisan T2 flagship posters were leaked on the Chinese social networking website Weibo, confirming the phone’s design. As you can see from the pictures, the design seems to be quite similar to the  Smartisan T1   that was launched around March last year. The phone was out of the ordinary at that time, considering it focused on the high-end segment unlike other Chinese competitors. Looks like the company is following the same tradition here but with cheaper price tag. The phone is said to come with 2.5D curved glass front with three buttons right below the display. The overall body looks quite robust with smooth curved corners, much like its predecessor. Specs, wise, you c...

Android 6.1 With Split-Screen Multi-Tasking Tipped to Launch in June

Image
The next major version of Android is now said to arrive in June 2016 along with new features. The next major version of Android will reportedly be v6.1 and not version v7. As per a report to the Android.gs website, Android 6.1 will bring along split-screen multitasking alongside better app permissions. Needless to say, Google has not confirmed anything about the next version and will likely not do so until its next Google I/O conference. Also, the June time-frame seems unlikely as the search giant does not have a fixed date every year for its 'dot' update. For instance, Android 5.1 Lollipop was launched in March last year. Even Android 4.4 KitKat got its last minor 'dot' update in June 2014. While Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is the latest version of Android currently, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is still being rolled out to most devices. To put in perspective the current adoption, we can refer to Google's own Android distribution numbers from earlier this ...

Patented Xiaomi Drone Could Be Controlled Via Its Mi Band Wearable

Image
We have been hearing rumors about a   new Xiaomi drone  for the past few months. However, up till now, there haven’t been any concrete leak regarding this product. Now, new patent documents reveal a few details about the company’s drone in development. The patent was filed by the company back in August. According to the recently published patent documents from the Chinese Intellectual Property Office, the Xiaomi drone in development could be controlled via a wearable. For example, in the images revealed by the office, it looks like the user is able to make gestures to control the various functions of the drone. The Xiaomi drone could be connected to Xiaomi’s own Mi Band wearable. Once connected, the user can perform simple gestures like a flick of a wrist to control the UAV. For instance, in one of the images, we see that a user riding a bike is performing some gestures to send some command to the drone above. Our guess is that the gesture could be a signal for ...
